Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that most iPhones sold in the US would be manufactured in India, while iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches would primarily be made in Vietnam.
This move is part of Apple’s strategy to diversify production away from China.
Trump’s Threat
On Truth Social, Trump stated that Apple must manufacture iPhones sold in the US domestically or face a tariff of at least 25 percent. He wrote:
“I have long ago informed Tim Cook of Apple that I expect their iPhones sold in the United States will be manufactured and built in the United States, not India or anyplace else.
If that is not the case, a tariff of at least 25% must be paid by Apple to the US.”
