Former President Donald Trump’s controversial acceptance of a $400 million Boeing 747-8 from Qatar’s royal family has sparked political backlash — and now, diplomatic awkwardness on a global stage.
During a tense Oval Office meeting this week, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa couldn’t resist a pointed remark about the extravagant gift.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t have a plane to give you,” Ramaphosa quipped.
Without hesitation, Trump fired back:
“I wish you did. I would take it. If your country offered the United States Air Force a plane, I would take it.”
The jab came amid ongoing criticism of the luxury jet, often described as a “flying palace,” which Trump claims will temporarily replace Air Force One — for free.
