Unsettling new information has now surfaced about what transpired just prior to the crash.
Their private plane was scheduled to take off from Westchester County Airport in the New York City neighborhood of White Plains at 11:16 a.m.
But according to an investigator’s report, the 55-year-old father missed his first approach to the runway at Columbia County Airport because he was running late.

Groff notified air traffic control that he had missed his slot at approximately 11.57 a.m. The controller then gave him new landing directions, which he accepted just after 12 p.m.
Groff was warned by a controller a minute later that his plane was flying dangerously low, but he ignored the repeated warnings from air traffic control.
