Introduced and passed by the Democrat-run Legislature, HB 1296 significantly alters the original proposal, which assured parents of public school children of 15 rights.
Along with access to educational and medical information, these rights comprised notification of academic achievement.
Medical treatment, school safety concerns, and law enforcement actions involving their children. Critics claim the new law eliminates or lessens many of these safeguards.
