A cryptic number sequence—8647—has ignited national controversy after former FBI Director James Comey shared a photo of seashells arranged in the number on a beach.
The now-deleted image, posted on social media, has drawn sharp backlash, with some alleging it contained a coded threat against former President Donald Trump.
Comey, who was fired by Trump in 2017, quickly deleted the post and issued an apology.
Claiming he came across the number by coincidence and thought it was “a political message,” not realizing its alleged violent implication.
However, the post triggered a federal investigation. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced that the Secret Service and Department of Homeland Security are actively looking into the matter.
“Today, federal agents interviewed disgraced former FBI Director Comey regarding a social media post calling for the assassination of President Trump,” Noem posted on X. “This is an ongoing investigation.”
