During last week’s VHSL Class 3 State Indoor Championships at Liberty University, Alaila Everett was running the second leg for I.C.

Norcom High School in the girl’s 4×200 meter relay when she reportedly struck junior Kaelen Tucker of Brookville High School over the head with the baton.

People are guessing about what may have caused the event after a video of it went viral, and one lip reader believes they have the answer.

LipReader creator Nicola Hickling claims that when she struck Tucker, she said the words “get off” and “hey oh.” Both racers had been vying for second place at the time of the event.

Tucker told WSLS, “She kept bumping me in my arm when we got to the curve, and when we got off the curve, I finally passed her, and that’s when she hit me with the baton.”
