What we know about the six-week suicide deaths of four Texas police department deputies

In the last six weeks, four officers from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) have died by suicide, igniting important discussions regarding mental health.

According to a 2023 research by the US Fire Administration, 58 percent of first responders who committed themselves in the US between 2015 and 2017 were law enforcement officers (LEOs).

Meanwhile, according to a 2024 report that ABC News was able to get, 1,287 LEOs and correctional officers committed themselves between 2016 and 2022.

Officers from local police departments accounted for more than half (51 percent) of officer suicide fatalities, with sheriff’s office officers accounting for 20%.

Four more LEOs have joined those heartbreaking numbers in the last month. Here’s what we know about their passing and how the Houston-based HSCO is helping the surviving cops with their mental health.
