The three of them went downstairs for breakfast before heading to daycare. Jake had intended to make oatmeal with milk as usual, but as soon as he entered the kitchen, he became disoriented.
Three dishes of freshly prepared pancakes with fruit and jam were there on the table. “Women, have you noticed this?” he enquired, perplexed.
Lily’s gaze expanded. Pancakes, wow! Daddy, did you create them? “No, I didn’t.” “Perhaps Aunt Sarah dropped by early,
” he said, using his phone to contact his sister to find out whether she had made the breakfast. Jake replied it was nothing and went to check on the front door and the windows,
but there was no trace of anybody entering the building forcibly. Sarah, to his astonishment, stated she hadn’t dropped by that morning and asked why he was asking.
