According to court documents obtained by NPR, Costilla was residing in New York when she vanished in 1993, making her the first suspected victim of the Gilgo Beach killer.
Two hunters discovered the 28-year-old’s remains in a forested region in November 1993. According to CBS, prosecutors think she was murdered the day before or the day after her body was discovered.
DNA subsequently connected Heuermann to her death, despite the fact that convicted murderer John Bittrolff was initially believed to be a suspect. In June 2024, he was accused with her murder.
