Barthelemy vanished from view after being photographed leaving her Bronx apartment in July 2009. at December 2010, as a Suffolk County Police Department officer was training with his K9 partner Blue.
Her body was discovered near the Ocean Parkway at Gilgo Beach.
In the Gone Girls documentary on Netflix, Barthelemy’s sister stated that she had completed cosmetology school and “wanted to get a job at a nice salon.”
Following her abduction, Barthelemy’s family reported receiving unsettling calls from an unidentified man who claimed to be her murderer. These calls were allegedly tracked by police to Heuermann’s workplace in midtown Manhattan.
In July 2023, he was accused with her murder.
