Russia is ‘deliberately testing NATO’s unity’ to see if it will activate Article 5, the alliance’s collective defense clause, according to
Finland’s Deputy Chief of Defence Lieutenant General Vesa Virtanen, who voiced concerns about Russia’s border moves last month.
“Russia has been testing Article 5 with hybrid war tactics, such as cyberattacks and mass cross-border migration,
And is now erecting new equipment to station Russian troops along its border,” Virtanen told the German newspaper Welt.
Virtanen said, “We see that Russia is building new infrastructure and as soon as they can, more troops in this region.” During the battle, there were roughly 20,000 soldiers stationed and four standby brigades.
According to the army chief, they are restructuring from the brigades and will probably have four or five divisions, an army corps, and a supporting unit.
