The charges made against Meta
By purchasing Instagram and WhatsApp, Facebook is accused in the lawsuit of using “anticompetitive means” to protect itself from rivals.
As well as “the anticompetitive conditioning of access to its platform to suppress competition.”
“Facebook moved to squelch those threats by buying the companies after identifying two significant competitive threats to its dominant position—Instagram and WhatsApp.”
This reflects CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s belief that “it is better to buy than compete,” which he declared in an email in 2008.
