Why Trump’s vehicle tariffs do not apply to Tesla, the sole automaker owned by Elon Musk

In comparison to other automakers, Elon Musk’s Tesla is expected to gain significantly from Trump’s most recent tariff action.

Donald Trump has been telling the globe since April 2 how his economic and “liberation day” plans will ultimately benefit Americans.

The White House, however, made it apparent in advance that the Trump administration had significant intentions for tariffs that would affect the auto sector.

The administration imposed a 25 percent tariff on imports of “automobiles and certain automobile parts” back in late March.

And in the most recent action, the White House disclosed that automakers could be spared from the tariffs, which coincidentally helps Elon Musk’s Tesla auto company.
