Why Trump’s vehicle tariffs do not apply to Tesla, the sole automaker owned by Elon Musk

According to the fact sheet: “President Donald J.

Trump signed a proclamation to protect national security by reducing American reliance on imports of foreign automobiles and their parts and encouraging domestic automobile production.”

By encouraging automakers to produce their vehicles domestically, the proclamation alters the tariff action on autos and auto parts and lessens American dependency on imports of autos and car parts.

A car manufacturer will be completely excluded from new auto tariffs if their vehicle has 85% or more domestic content.

This only applies to one company—you guessed it—Tesla.
