Assertion that the Virginia home serves as her primary house is incompatible with her need to maintain a major residence in New York as an elected official.
James is also charged with making up the fact that her father was her spouse in order to appear on mortgage paperwork as a married pair.
“In a case called Thompson, the Supreme Court just said earlier in March that they want to see knowing false statements under sections like 10-14, not just misleading statements,” Turley noted.
According to the New York Post, James and her father were classified as “husband and wife” on paperwork pertaining to a home they bought together in 1983 and 2000.
