A preliminary examination by Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari determined fireworks caused the roof to burn intensely and collapse on civilians. reports INA.
The BBC reported that 14 persons were detained after the incident, including four fireworks setters. Some were released.
Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani requested ‘the strongest consequences available by law for anyone guilty for carelessness or errors that led to this sad fire.’
He also instructed all authorities to increase building inspections and safety checks at retail malls, restaurants, and hotels.
