The new prohibition is the outcome of growing tensions between Moraes, 55, and Musk, who have been involved in a months-long battle over free speech, far-right accounts, and false information.
On August 31, all internet service providers in the country—which had 215 million residents and was one of X’s biggest
markets—completely banned the platform, and the major news websites in the nation ceased to exist at the same moment.
After the ban, an angry Musk went to X and said, drawing a comparison between de Moraes and the evil wizard from the Harry Potter series,
“The tyrant de Voldemort is crushing the people’s right to free speech.” Moraes said that X would remain in suspended figure until it obeys his commands.
He also instituted a £6,790 daily fee for individuals or organizations that use virtual private networks (VPNs) to get access to X.
