Instead, one ambulance from Ambulanz, a third-party ambulance firm, was assigned at 1.08 pm and arrived at 1.21 pm.
Aaron had a heart attack as the group was traveling to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle.
Aaron was declared dead at 6:40 p.m. at the University Hospital of North Durham when the ambulance was rerouted there.
Aaron had a 95% chance of surviving his injuries, according to an NEAS severe incident report that was released after his death.
“There were a lot of failings through [Aaron’s case], which unfortunately led to the outcome,” Mr. Barber, the report’s author, said at the inquest. It is anticipated that the inquiry would end on Friday, November 15.
