Jenna’s mother was closely linked to baby Garnet, according to further genealogy tests, which suggested a relationship to her grandmother, Nancy Gerwatowski, whom Jenna had never met.

According to Click on Detroit, Jenna’s grandma was arrested in 2022 and charged with murder, involuntary manslaughter, and concealing an individual’s death.
Her arrest followed the renewal of the investigation in 2017 when a detective sergeant with the Michigan State Police “initiated familial genetic genealogical tracing.
With the assistance of a private laboratory and the Federal Bureau of Investigations,” who by then had acquired Baby Garnet’s skeletal remains.
According to the state, as The Independent noted, “a DNA profile was developed and returned in 2022 indicating a specific familial lineage after a lab received remains to test in 2020.”
If found guilty, the 61-year-old lady faces a life term in jail and will now face trial for the cold case murder.
