As medical professionals treat patients in hospital gyms and hallways, the flu “tidal wave” continues to rise.

Seem like some of the days we experienced at the height of the epidemic, making it difficult to gauge how difficult it is for frontline workers right now based only on the data.

Prof. Powis told the NHS last month that they were dealing with a “tidal wave of flu,” in addition to the high levels of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), coughing, and the illness bug norovirus.

NHS England has referred to the widespread Covid-19 infections as a “quad-demic,” with hundreds of susceptible individuals suffering from severe wintertime illnesses.

As services are on the verge of being overloaded, at least 20 NHS trusts have already reported major issues.

“We’re facing possibly the worst winter pressures in the NHS’s history, with warnings that things could get worse,” said Professor Peter Friend, the vice president of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

When a major event is declared, hospitals may ask other local health systems for assistance, focus treatment where it is most needed, and urge certain employees to return from yearly leave to work.
