According to recent A&E statistics, just 71% of patients waited less than four hours, compared to the NHS guideline of 95%.
“With flu cases on the rise, sick and vulnerable people lining hallways, and numerous hospitals reporting critical incidents,
Nursing staff have never been more concerned for patient safety,” said Professor Nicola Ranger, General Secretary of the Royal College of Nurses.
This is the harsh reality of an NHS with insufficient personnel, too few beds, and no where to send patients once they are discharged.
Last week, patients with vomiting and diarrhea or symptoms similar to the norovirus occupied an average of 626 hospital beds each day in England, up from 528 the week before.
