As the death toll rises worldwide, a mysterious lethal virus “may be Disease X.”

The unidentified disease that is ravaging the Democratic Republic of the Congo is raising concerns that it may be the cause of the next pandemic.

About 400 instances of the enigmatic illness, which mostly affects children ages 5 and younger, have been reported since late October in the Panzi health zone of Kwango Province.

Fever, cough, runny nose, headache, and body pains are some of the symptoms. At least 71 fatalities have been reported to the WHO so far, and the situation is becoming worse due to acute malnutrition.

According to NYAS, scientists are rushing to identify the source of the epidemic, searching for hints in respiratory ailments like pneumonia, influenza, Covid-19, and measles as well as endemic diseases like malaria.

Health experts are also investigating the possibility that various disorders may have contributed to the deaths.
