The Chicago Cubs won the World Series in 2016, the year Matusz made his last Major League Baseball appearance.
He played with the Long Island Ducks in the Atlantic League, Mexico, and Triple-A (Reno Aces) while he pursued his professional career.
Apart from his playing career, Matusz showcased his skills over the globe. Prior to the 2022 World Baseball Classic, he was the bullpen coach for the New Zealand squad.
One admirer said on social media, “Wow, this is devastating news,” in response to the tragic news of Matusz’s demise.
Rest in peace. “Brian, rest in peace. Too quickly gone. “Support to the Matusz family,” someone another said.
Sad, he seemed like such a kind guy. A third remarked, “May his memory be a gift,” while a fourth added, “It’s heartbreaking! Brian, rest in paradise! His family is in our prayers.
