Elon Musk’s Tesla is against a vehicle crash rule that Donald Trump’s transition team wants to remove.

According to a document seen by Reuters, the Trump transition team wants the incoming administration to repeal a car crash reporting requirement that Elon Musk’s Tesla has opposed.

This move could seriously impair the government’s capacity to look into and oversee the safety of cars equipped with automated driving systems.

The wealthiest man in the world, Elon Musk, spent almost a quarter of a billion dollars to assist Trump win the election in November.

Since Tesla has reported the majority of crashes—more than 1,500—to federal safety inspectors under the program, eliminating the crash-disclosure clause would be very advantageous to the company.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched three investigations against Tesla as a result of the data.

A transition committee charged with creating a 100-day plan for automobile policy recommended eliminating the crash-reporting law.
