Have sometimes unintentionally banned postings that attempted to provide the public useful health information in an attempt to stop harmful coronavirus claims.
When the Cochrane Library, a worldwide healthcare resource, attempted to utilise Instagram in 2021 to refute misleading claims on coronavirus medical treatments, some postings were taken down.
“The authors found no evidence to support the use of Ivermectin for treating or preventing Covid-19 infection,” Cochrane said in a caption for one of the images.
A medication called ivermectin is used to deworm cows and horses. Nonetheless, during the pandemic, it was promoted as a substitute therapy for COVID-19.
Following an inaccurate fact-check, Facebook penalised the Cochrane account, despite numerous official warnings that the medication was ineffective in treating COVID-19.
