Hurricane Helene Strikes Hard in Florida, Georgia, and Other States, Killing 4 People

 

Before spreading to neighboring states including Georgia, Alabama, the Carolinas, and Virginia, Hurricane Helene destroyed electricity in over a million homes and businesses in Florida.

Over 68,000 Georgians lost energy, and the governors of those states declared emergencies. Over 310,000 people in North and South Carolina were without electricity.

In a car collision in North Carolina, a 4-year-old lost his life and many others were hurt. In southern Georgia,

tornado-like gusts claimed the lives of two persons. Additionally, a driver in Florida lost their life when a sign collapsed on their vehicle.

Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida issued a warning, estimating that the storm’s potential to cause more fatalities.
