It’s no surprise that cosmetic procedures like Botox and lip filler are becoming more popular among women as young as 18 when the options of how we may appear are provided to us.
According to plastic surgeon Steven Hanna, he must continually strike a balance between surgery safety, patient expectations, and cosmetic trends.
In a recent article he wrote for Oxford’s Aesthetic Surgery Journal, he looked at how cosmetic surgeons are increasingly expected.
To control patients’ expectations and inform them about the cyclical nature of social media trends before they decide to undergo surgery.
According to Hanna, “filters depict impossible outcomes that can’t be accomplished surgically or may call for risky, multi-step interventions.”
He has seen how social media trends cause individuals to be unhappy with their own looks, which is not an ideal situation for a surgeon, despite popular belief.
