Hayes, who passed away in August 2008 at the age of 65 due to a stroke, collaborated with David Porter to compose
“Hold On, I’m Comin'” for the soul duet Sam & Dave in 1966. The copyright to the melody was reverted to the Hayes family in March 2022, according to Isaac Hayes III, Hayes’s son.
Hayes’ son clarifies that the family desires Trump to cease the use of the track, remove any videos in which
the song may be featured, and issue a statement that clarifies that the estate never authorized the usage.
Additionally, the family is concerned about the $3 million in licensing fees, which they claim is a discount.
