With an outstanding record of 44 victories, including 32 knockouts, and only 5 defeats, Vázquez retired.
With condolences pouring in from trainers, other boxers, and fans, the boxing community has come together in sadness.
The late champion was honored by legendary coach Freddie Roach, who worked with Vázquez throughout his career.
“A boxing legend and world champion forever,” Roach said on Instagram. “I’ve had the honor of working with one of the best boxers ever.”
May you now rest in peace, Israel. My sympathies go out to the Vázquez family and everyone who considered Israel a friend.
“He was not only a champion but also a true warrior in and out of the ring,” said Australian boxer Billy Dib, who also shared his sadness.
I send my deepest sympathies to his loved ones, friends, and everyone who appreciated him. I hope he finds peace. During this trying moment, our thoughts are with Vázquez’s family.
