The “childless cat lady” moniker is one that Lupita Nyong’o gladly wears. In the past, J.D. Vance, a Republican running for vice president, attempted to use it to insult those who did not have children.
In a speech he gave in 2021, he said that the “childless left” was to responsible for America’s woes and advocated for expanded voting rights for parents.
After that, Vance reiterated his position in an interview with Tucker Carlson, calling those who have never had children, such as Vice President Kamala Harris,
“a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.” Finally, he said, “It’s just a basic fact.”
