The cause of Kaur’s death is still being looked into by local authorities, including the Halifax Regional Police. Whether foul play is suspected at this point is unknown.
Halifax Regional Police Constable Martin Cromwell told The New York Post on Thursday that the inquiry is still underway.
He also said that the Medical Examiner’s Office and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) are collaborating closely with the police.
Just a few years ago, Kaur, a Sikh from Halifax, immigrated to Canada. According to the fundraiser, her brother and father, who are still in India, are trying to get to Canada.
The Maritime Sikh Society’s head, Satnam Singh Randhawa, conveyed the community’s profound grief on the passing.
“It’s pretty distressing… young people come here with hopes and dreams, working hard, and then this is what happens,” Randhawa said to CBC News.
