Berkeley, California police have ordered residents to leave several areas of the city “due to a tsunami coming to West Berkeley.”
The tsunami warning was later discontinued, and the order was removed. “West Berkeley evacuation orders are no longer in effect. Returning to the neighborhood is safe, according to municipal authorities.
The National Tsunami Warning Center detected the earthquake at 10:44 a.m. local time. Stephen DeLong, a geologist at the USGS Earthquake Science Center.
Told reporters Thursday afternoon that there has been a “robust” aftershock series in its aftermath.
According to the USGS, there have been over 30 aftershocks recorded in the area, including one with a magnitude of 4.3 close to Petrolia.
