Olivia Wilde and Anna Kendrick shot an improvised film including a nude scene.

Wilde said: “I felt no conflict. That is the beautiful moment [Kate’s] been waiting for, when she is essentially giving [Luke] her self, very literally. She knows that; she is being rather inappropriate.

She then said that, thinking it would be crucial for the character’s narrative, she would have pushed for the sequence if the director had opposed.

“And if Joe had said it’s too inappropriate, like ‘If you’re nude it’d be too startling,’ I would have argued for it.” The film got great ratings upon its premiere. On Rotten Tomatoes,

It has an 84 percent rating—not small achievement for a mainly improvised movie. The Independent’s Francesca Steele noted the original promotion of the movie and remarked:

“Drinking Buddies could suffer somewhat from its marketing, which may suggest to some audiences that it is just a regular rom com.”
