Co-commentator Lizzie Simmonds, who also called Ballard’s comment “outrageous,” chuckled at the statement.

Following the incident, Eurosport issued the following statement: “Last night, during a section of Eurosport’s programming, commentator Bob Ballard made an unacceptable joke.

“To that end, he has been removed from our commentary roster with immediate effect.” The seasoned pundit has covered several Olympic Games and World Championships during her career in sports journalism, which dates back to the 1980s.
