Paul Reubens, star of “Pee-wee Herman,” comes out as homosexual in a documentary after his away.

“Please accept my apology for not going public with what I’ve been facing the last six years,” Reubens said.

“My friends, admirers, and supporters have always shown me a great deal of love and respect. I’ve liked creating art for you all and have loved you all very much.”

The children’s Saturday morning show “Pee-wee’s Playhouse” debuted on CBS in 1986 and lasted until 1990.

“The Pee-wee Herman Show” brought the character back to the stage after a lengthy absence, and it debuted on Broadway and in Los Angeles in 2010.

Pee-wee made a comeback on Netflix six years later in the Judd Apatow-produced movie “Pee-wee’s Big Holiday,” which also starred Joe Manganiello.

When talking about the movie in 2016, Reubens told USA TODAY that Apatow was a fan and “he wanted to bring Pee-wee back.”

“The homecoming was made possible by him. Additionally, he wanted to make a road movie that was reminiscent of “Big Adventure.”
