According to Matt Carroll, the Chief Executive Officer of AOC, the petition was “vexatious, misleading, and bullying.”
Additionally, he stated that the petition “contains a multitude of falsehoods that are intended to incite animosity
toward an athlete who was chosen for the Australian Olympic Team through a transparent and independent qualification event and nomination process.”
Gunn has also released a statement this week regarding the adverse effects of the negative backlash that she has experienced in recent weeks.
She expressed her gratitude for the positivity in a video posted on Instagram on August 15: “I am pleased to have contributed to your happiness; that was my intention.”
