Lead choreographer Thomas Jolly for the event has also addressed concerns that Katerine’s piece was meant to parody Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper, which shows Jesus with the Twelve Apostles.
Jolly told the BFM television on Sunday that his goal was not to recreate the well-known picture. Instead, he said, “The idea was to do a big pagan party linked to the gods of Olympus.”
“My art never contains any intention to make fun of or disparage somebody. In addition, Jolly said, “I wanted the ceremony to affirm our Republican values of liberty, equality, and fraternity while also uniting people and fostering reconciliation.”
