Stephen Hawking’s prophecy of the end of the world is more imminent than we realize.

Is it too late to change now? “Although the chance of a disaster to planet Earth in a given year may be quite low,

it adds up over time and becomes a near certainty in the next thousand or 10,000 years,” Hawking previously told the BBC in 2016.

He ascribed this prognosis to the greenhouse effect, climate change, and global warming as the primary factors contributing to Earth’s destruction.

Humanity doesn’t seem to have changed all that much in these areas in the years that have passed. Given that Hawking identified pandemics,

Artificial intelligence, and nuclear war as existential risks, the end of the planet could well be closer than previously thought.
