Stunning ‘Planet Parade’ Visible In Night Sky This Week — How To See It

The top line An extremely uncommon planetary alignment is being advertised online for Tuesday, January 21, and Saturday, January 25.

Six planets are now visible in the night sky, four of which can be seen with the unaided eye, however this is not exclusive to those dates.

Jupiter is high in the southeast, Mars is in the east, Venus and Saturn are in the southwest, and four planets are visible in the night sky just after sunset.

Until about three hours later, when Venus and Saturn will set in the west, it is best to look 45 minutes after sunset. This weekend, Venus and Saturn will be closely aligned.

They will come within two degrees of one another on Saturday, January 18. Venus will be 110 times brighter than Saturn, making it the second brightest object in the night sky behind the moon.

The collection of planets should not be referred to as an alignment. According to a blog post by NASA Public Engagement Specialist Preston Dyches, “planets always appear along.
