According to the CrossFit organization, a competitor in a swimming event during Thursday’s tournament in Texas drowned.
This tragic event took place in Fort Worth on the first day of the CrossFit Games, which will continue through Sunday. The remainder of the day’s activities have been canceled, according to CrossFit.
The swimmer who drowned was identified by the Tarrant County medical examiner as Lazar Dukic, a 28-year-old Serbian man. Don Faul, CEO of CrossFit, expressed his “gutted” reaction to Dukic’s death at a press conference.
At a news conference on Thursday at noon, Faul promised that the community and the family will remain his top priorities in the face of the tragedy.
The event took place at Marine Creek Lake on Thursday morning. According to officials, the Fort Worth Fire Department was alerted at about 8 a.m. local time after a CrossFit Games competitor went missing while swimming.
