The Parliament of South Korea votes to remove President Yoon Suk Yeol from office due to his imposition of martial law.

 

In a statement, Yoon said that he would “never give up” and urged government personnel to keep things stable during what he called a “temporary” break in his presidency.

“I will take with me all the criticism, support, and encouragement that have been thrown at me, and I will keep doing everything in my power for the country until the very end,” Yoon said.

Although Yoon’s declaration of martial rule on Dec. 3, the first in South Korea’s history, lasted just six hours, it generated significant political unrest,

Stalled diplomatic efforts, and shook financial markets. The parliament overwhelmingly decided to revoke Yoon’s proclamation, forcing him to do so.

The military was instructed by acting leader Han to strengthen.
