The Parliament of South Korea votes to remove President Yoon Suk Yeol from office due to his imposition of martial law.

It claimed that Yoon’s declaration of martial rule was intended to violate the constitution and that his mobilization of police and military troops posed a danger to the people and the National Assembly.

Yoon doesn’t back down. Yoon denied the accusations of insurrection in a vehement address on Thursday, referring to the declaration of martial rule as an act of administration.

The conservative Yoon said that his goal was to warn the major liberal opposition Democratic Party, referring to it as “a monster” and “anti-state forces,”

Which he claimed had used their legislative power to remove several high-ranking officials and sabotage the government’s budget proposal for the next year. He said that the purpose of the force deployment was to maintain order, not to disturb it.

Lee Jae-myung, the head of the Democratic Party, referred to Yoon’s speech as a “mad declaration of war” on his own people.

Despite polls showing that over 70% of South Koreans supported his impeachment, observers believe Yoon’s speech indicated a concentration on legal preparations to defend.
