Payne battled addiction since One Direction went on an extended break in 2016 and checked himself into a treatment facility in 2023.
Payne is survived by his two elder sisters, his 7-year-old son Bear Grey, and his parents, Geoff and Karen. (Payne and his ex-girlfriend Cheryl Cole have an only child together.)
“We are devastated. Liam’s family informed the BBC in a statement at the time that “he will always be in our hearts and we will remember him for his kind, funny, and brave soul.”
“As a family, we are doing everything we can to support one another, and we kindly request privacy and space during this terrible time.”
In separate social media posts, Liam’s sisters Ruth and Nicola also discussed the death of their younger brother.
