Emma D’Arcy (“House of the Dragon”), Keira Knightley (“Black Doves”), Keri Russell (“The Diplomat”), and Maya Erskine (“Mr. & Mrs. Smith”) were also in the category that Sawai, 32, won.
Russell, 48, was relieved that she was not the winner. She gave the individual seated next to her a mouthful of “thank you, oh thank you.” Sawai kindly acknowledged Bates throughout her address.
“I’ll make it brief, but I have a lot of people to thank. The crowd laughed when she remarked, “Thank you to the voters for voting for me even though I would vote for Kathy Bates any day.”
After the performance, Sawai told Entertainment Tonight that she wasn’t convinced she would win her category. “I was simply thinking how delighted.
