In a study of Trump’s tax policy, economist John Cochrane of the Hoover Institution said that the DOGE-identified expenditure “is the means, not the end.”
“That significant change is indeed needed in the US. However, now is not the moment. On his blog, The Grumpy Economist, Cochrane commented,
“Get through the first year, maybe build a record of success.” According to Bourne of the Cato Institute, DOGE may serve as a springboard for more significant reforms.
“Some might contend that demonstrating to the public that you have already done everything possible to eliminate waste, poor management, and non-priority.
Spending areas from the budget is the only way to gain support for entitlement reform in the future,” he told The Epoch Times. He expressed his suspicion.
