Stacey Campbell told USA TODAY that her 9-year-old son, known as “JoJo,” who has autism and is non-verbal, went on the Tuesday expedition.
Campbell said, “I saw red,” after reading Schneider’s email. “JoJo” is enrolled in the ACHIEVE regional program in Charles County Public Schools.
Which provides services to kindergarteners through twenty-one-year-olds with “significant cognitive disabilities.”
According to Campbell, once a month from November through May, children in the school district’s ACHIEVE and SOAR (regional program for students with autism) programs go on community-based learning excursions.
Navarro said that after informing the Waldorf Cracker Barrel about the size of the party and its intended visit, employees of Charles County Public Schools informed them that reservations were not required.
“The restaurant allowed the students and staff to place a carryout to-go order, even though the group did not end up dining in,” Schneider said in her email to parents.
