A New Jersey high school football coach lost his job after claiming that authorities objected to the players’ off-season workouts. After a 4-4-1 season this past year,
Jim Cleary was fired from Park Ridge High School in New Jersey, which is home to the renowned Tony Soprano actor James Gandolfini.
However, Cleary, who was in his first season as head coach after serving as defensive coordinator for two seasons before, claims the record had no bearing on the outcome.
Cleary informed NJ Advance Media that when his proposal for an offseason training program was turned down, he was sacked by the school administration.
Said unequivocally that weightlifting was the main objective of the program. He went on to say that prior to his dismissal last summer, he told administrators about the plot.
This made him think that parents could have voiced their displeasure with the proposal to administrators. Cleary said, “I was in complete shock.”
