She would have battled for the sequence since she thought it was crucial to the character’s narrative.

The film got positive reviews when it came out. For a mostly improvised movie, it has an impressive 84 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Independent’s Francesca Steele offered the following analysis on the film’s distinctive marketing:
“Drinking Buddies could suffer a little from its marketing, which may suggest to some audiences that it is just a regular rom com.”
