According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio, former Democratic Commissioner Jimmy Dimora of Cuyahoga County,
Ohio, was found guilty of accepting bribes for more than ten years in the form of “cash, home improvements,
lavish meals at high-end restaurants, services from prostitutes, gambling trips to Las Vegas and Canada, and other items.”
In 2012, Dimora received a 28-year jail term. Former President Barack Obama had already turned down Dimora’s plea for mercy, but Biden commuted her sentence.
In 2013, former Comptroller Rita Crundwell of Dixon, Illinois, was found guilty of stealing $53.7 million from the city and given a sentence of over 20 years in prison. Biden’s decision to reduce her sentence drew criticism from local authorities and citizens.
