In a statement released on Thursday, Biden said that those who were given mercy were serving lengthy terms that would have been shorter “if charged under today’s laws, policies, and practices.”
Biden stated, “These commutation recipients have successfully reintegrated into their families and communities and have demonstrated that they deserve a second chance after being placed in home confinement during the COVID pandemic.”
